VCSA 6.7 - Can't login with AD after upgrade!

I just upgraded with success my VCSA from 6.5 to 6.7 by deploying a new VM, however I can no longer login with AD credentials.

I have set my domain as my default identity source in SSO, however when watching the log file in /var/log/vmware/vpxd/websso.log I keep seeing it try and send the authentication to vsphere.local and not to the domain I have setup.

Does anyone have a similar issue or know how I can fix this?

Thanks!

Trying to create a VM of a Win10 machine getting Permissions denied

Using vCenter Converter Standalone - get permissions denied

Host machine is WIn 10 Pro -  i have system admin rights, but it seems with windows these days you don't really have full rights.

In any event here is my error File -

Anyway to get around this - ??? This isn't a Firewall issue with windows I don't believe

I have the BIOS enabled for VM to YES

Current vCenter version : 6.5.0.10000

Current ESX version : VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 5969303

I'm trying to use the vCenter 6.7 ISO to upgrade vCenter on my home lab. I tried from a macOS workstation out of the ESX server, and from a Windows VM in the lab as well, with the same result.

After roughly 30%, not always exactly at the same percentage, the progress bar stalls and this is visible in the logs :

vCenter factory setting restore

I've made a test lab having the following -

i) 3 ESXi 6.5

ii) vCenter 6.5 in Win2012

iii) FreeNAS for storage

I've added 3 ESXI hosts and storage in vCenter in a HA cluster. Everything was fine till this. After successful testing, I wanted to test my virtual vmware lab configuring vDS. Due to some configuration issue, every went beyond control. And vCenter is unable to connect to any host. Now I want to configure my test virtual data-center from scratch. My question is how can I restore vCenter to its fresh condition without going for uninstall and  install again?

VM Mem & CPU Reservations and Limits, and what does the host need?

On any given host, what is the maximum CPU and Mem than can be reserved for the VMs running on that host when totaled up?

What is reserved by the host for itself, and unavailable for reservations? Does this vary at all?

vCenter HTML 5 Reactive User Interface not scrolling

We've been working on a new HTML 5 plug-in for vCenter and things are looking pretty good.

However, I recently tested on an iPad using Chrome and noticed a somewhat different behavior than on my MacBook using Chrome.

We have some tables that are wider than will fit on the browser window.

On the Mac, I can scroll to the right and see the table columns.

On the iPad, I can only scroll to the right the amount used in VMware defined webpages, but not to the far right of the tables in our plug-in.

Is there a <div> or something that I could wrap our pages with to cause them to be limited in width to the same amount as VMware plug-ins?

     Best Regards,

         Michael

ESX Agent Manager - vmware-eam will not start

First I noticed /etc/vmware-eam/eam.properties was empty, so I poulated it with the correct entries using another working vCSA (changed URLs and CM configuration URL with the correct hostid, but the service still does not start.

I see the following output if I try and start EAM via shell.

I have a VMware ticket open but they are being really slow at getting back to me.

Is it possible to remove the extension and add it again? I suspect that due to the disk running out of space a few weeks ago some files may have become corrupt.

Hosts disconnect temporarily with VCSA 6.5u1

$

I've posted this elsewhere and also have a support case in, but a few months into the support case i'm running out of patience. Hoping someone else has had this problem.

Issue: ESXi Hosts become disconnected from vcenter intermittently after upgrading to 6.5U1 VCSA. Especially during template deployments between clusters or veeam backups. There are at least 2 people having this problem so i know its not just me. More details here, but i'll post the relevant bits: https://www.reddit.com/r/vmware/comments/7ht23s/vsphere_65u1_cluster_hosts_disconnecting_and/

My issue started when upgrading a 6.0 VCSA to 6.5u1. Everything worked fine before this upgrade. I did not upgrade any of the hosts at the time, and the issue started the next evening after the upgrade (during Veeam backups). I did not touch any of the hosts or config, just a by the book vcenter upgrade. I should add that these hosts were added to this vcenter when it was a VCSA. I did not use the migration tool from Windows vcenter to appliance, I started from scratch, so it should be pretty clean.

Veeam backups sometimes cause the issue, but I can reliably recreate the issue on demand by deploying a template between datacenters/clusters. VMware initially thought it is a network congestion issue. However, I disproved that theory by doing a tcpdump on the vcsa, showing the heartbeats are in fact arriving to the vcenter. They responded by saying

“As we discussed before the heartbeats are reaching vCenter, but the "host sync" is not getting completed and timing out. Why? Because the ACK messages that vCenter is sending are not being processed by the ESXi host. We are currently investigating from the ESXi side which seems to be the top offender, the "miss heartbeats"messages in the vpxd.log are false positives.”

Here are some relevant logs I see (some text redacted)

Vpxd.log on vcenter when the host disconnects: 2017-11-28T15:39:10.827Z info vpxd[7F34FF162700] [Originator@6876 sub=InvtHostCnx opID=HeartbeatStartHandler-5d19501d] [VpxdIntHost] Missed 11 heartbeats for host <hostname>

017-11-28T15:39:25.201Z error vpxd[7F34FFBF7700] [Originator@6876 sub=vmomi.soapStub[103] opID=781d2fe1] Error deserializating SOAP response body: --> Unexpected exception reading HTTP response body: N7Vmacore15SystemExceptionE(Connection reset by peer)

This post https://communities.vmware.com/thread/389935 from 2012 has very similar logs, for what it’s worth. I tried the one suggestion of removing management network redundancy, to no effect. I have not yet tested disabling the firewall as mentioned in this post, as I have multiple host disconnects (even those not involved in vmotions) so I don’t feel like this is an esxi issue.

Veeam ONE also reports the following when hosts disconnect. My hunch is vcenter is sending out some malformed data, but I can’t prove it. Failed to collect performance data for object <esxihostname>. A general system error occurred: Invalid response<br> Initiated by: Veeam ONE Monitor"

My setup: Multiple clusters tied to this one vcenter experience the issue. So there is a variety of hardware/software involved across these two cluster. This is a good thing in my opinion as it rules out a specific esxi software version.

Vcenter; 6.5u1 (no updates)

Hosts in cluster 1: Dell R620s running 6.0 connected to a Nimble iscsi storage array via Solarflare 10G nics. Pretty standard redundancy set up, two 10g connections shared for management/vmotion/vm. Load balancing set to Originating Virtual Port (no LACP/Bonding/etc). Vcenter VCSA is hosted here.

Hosts in cluster 2: Dell R740XD running all flash VSAN on very latest software/hardware/drivers/etc (6.5u1). Just built it a month ago. These hosts also have the disconnect issues. They cannot possibly blame network on this, they had issues when loaded with a minimal number of idle VMs. Hosts are connected to standard Cisco Nexus 9300 switches.

CBT Parameters not saved after reboot

Hello,

I have changed the CBT parameter for ctkEnabled to false, but every time I boot up the VM, it continues to show as true.

What is causing this to happen?

We are using Azure Backup Server for DPM.

Thank you!

Assign tag to VM failed with #1009 error

Please i have vsphere vcenter 6.0.0 and i try to assign tag to VMs but it fails with the error stack below.

I firstly create the tag with my user account which is defined in global permissions with "Administrator" role and failed to assign the tag to VM.

The list of tags is not displayed to select for assignment. It's like some service could not access to those data.

Moreover, the same error is displayed even if i try to assign the tag to VM, using the account "administrator@vsphere.local".

I don'i know what i missed !

Thanks you for your help.

Anyone knows how to deploy vcva5.0GA with a static IP using ovftool?

My current project need to support VCVA5.0. We need to automate its deployment with a static IP in VCD environment. Unlike VCVA5.1GA and later versions, VCVA5.0 does not have OVF properties allowing us to preconfigure its network through ovftool. I cannot specify its static IP/gateway/net mask before powering it on. Does anyone know how to work around this issue?

Since we deploy it from VCD's catalog, not drectly from a VC, I want to avoid using pyvmomi API.

Thanks

Adding VCSA 6.0 to domain fails

Hi Guys,

Hopefully something you can assist me with to stop me from ripping anymore of my hair out   For the last few days, I have been trying to add our VCSA to our domain so that I can setup the SSO domain.

This is a brand new deployment - 6.0 all around.  We are using the embedded VCSA with an embedded deployment.  When I go to join the domain, I get the following error:

Idm client exception: Error trying to join AD, error code [11], user [Administrator@mydomain], domain [mydomain], orgUnit []

I have replaced our domain name with 'mydomain' above - any ideas?

When selecting a VM to migrate the option to migrate is greyed out.  In fact, Power On, Migrate, Revert to Current Snapshot are greyed out.  I would like to migrate this VM to another host and datastore.

ESXi version 5.1.0 build 1021289

VMware vCenter Server, 5.1.0 build 947673

I've migrated 154 VMs and out of the 154 VMs migrated approximately a dozen VMs would not allow for live migrations(migrate... option greyed out).  I could not identify any commonality between the dozen VMs that did not allow for live migrations.

I really need to migrate this VM in a live state if at all possible.

When vCenter checks to see if a VM is a valid candidate to migrate, what does it check for because the migrate option is NOT grey for about a second before it becomes greyed out?

Good morning everyone,

I want to know if it is possibile to configure many vm using vcenter or some external tools.

I need to change boot device order and set a bios password.

I've searched online but i can't find anything useful.

thank you.

Mammer - just came across this post, and just in case someone else stumbles across this I'm going to add some helpful details for them to consume.

The thing to look at is your storage configuration.

- is your storage what I would consider legacy?  that is, is the LUN restricted to a specific set of spindles that handle IO?  if yes, what type of disk is in use, and what is the IOPs rating for the disk?  from there you do some math  that will allow you to understand how many IOPs the LUN can handle, then from there you plan out which VMs should run there so that you don't over load it.  For the most part this is a thing of the past with modern arrays

- does you storage use pools?  storage pools allow for all spindles in the pool to handle IO to the LUNs you provision from this pool of disks, with this array technology you don't need to worry so much about the # of VMs per datastore

- also,  with newer arrays, SSD tiers are used to handle in the incoming IO, and from there throttle the IO to the LUNs, in some cases like the Dell compellent the IO is always written to the "fast track" which is the outer 20% of the disk for faster writes, and later data progression routines place the data elsewhere

We just acquired an HDS G600 array that has 6TB of flash whereby all IOs are written into this flash tier, and will stay there until this tier fills up, then data progress routines will move the data to a slower tier, and HDS auto tier function will move data blocks up to the flash tier when needed.

So, to summarize, understand your storage..
