Running 5.5 VCSA, we can login to the VIC using the user name and password set when we deployed VCSA. Of course with SSO in 5.5 we now need to use need to use administrator@vsphere.local and the password setup when we deployed.
normal day to day use is fine. VIC to the vCenter, work on the environment etc. We want to enable AD auth, but this is now on hold as we cant login.
But i cannot login to the HTTPS://<IP>:5480/
Any pointers would be very helpful.

I have two hosts (esx01 and esx02) running ESXi 5.5 that are connected to the same vDS 5.1. I have no issues passing traffic between VM's that are on the different hosts and in the same port group, so I know the vDS is doing what it is supposed to. Each host has 8 vmnic's and the vDS has 8 uplinks, all set to active.
However, when I setup a distributed port mirroring on the vDS and choose a source port and destination port, I only get the mirrored traffic on the destination port if the ports are on the same host. If the source and destination are on different hosts, no mirror traffic is received.
I have sort of worked around it by using the following https://everythingshouldbevirtual.com/vmware-vds-rspan-port-mirroring, however, that ends up giving me a lot of duplicated packets when I attach it to a single uplink (presumably as the switch is seeing the traffic ingress/egress on both vmnic's in the vDS uplink? For each packet I see 8 duplicates.
But it seems to me that this should "just work" without having to do anything switch side. I've also tried looking at: vSphere 5.1 – VDS Feature Enhancements – Port Mirroring – Part 3 | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs., but with that it seems those are in completed separated vDS which in that case an RSPAN makes sense at the switch level to pass the traffic. But in my case it is a single switch sitting between two hosts that are connected to the same vDS.
Any thoughts or directions to help guide me to the answer would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, I am trying to understand the different SSO options and also get a better feel for best practices for installing it. As you're all aware, there are three options: vCenter Single Sign-on for your first vCenter Server vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter Server in an existing site vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter Server with a new site I have the following questions: 1. If I having existing vCenter servers running 5.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2, but I want to remove them and replace them with vCenters running Windows 2012 R2, should I select option 1 when installing the new vCenters? Or, can I Select option 2, then decommission the previous vCenter Server running SSO at a later time? 2. Is the first Single Sign-on Server special in any way? Is it like a "Primary" SSO server since it was the first one installed? Do I need to take special precaution when installing it? 3. Finally, what is the best practice when installing a second vCenter in a DR site? I believe the most logical SSO installation method would be installing vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter Server with a new site in the DR site rather than vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter Server in an existing site. My thinking on this is that if the protected site falls down, there should be nothing at all linking the two sites, therefore the DR site should have its own SSO server, and that server should be in a new site. But is this accurate? Can I install using "vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter Server in an existing site" without creating any dependencies between the two sites? I know there are a lot of articles out there about SSO, but I'm still really unclear about these specific scenarios, any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Duncan.

So how do I do that? All I can get it to do is download a client integration plugin bundle (yep. It downloads the bundle. Lots and lots of times).

After Upgrading vCenter Sever Appliance to 5.5 the connection to AD no longer works.
Re-Entering the authentication details give the following, "Error: Enabling Active Directory failed."
I have tried deleting the computer account in AD to allow it to be recreated but this has no effect.
I have also checked that I am using the correct format for the username.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be greatful.

connect to esx ip managment
il delete esx server and install windows 2012 the copy from w7 and w2012 is 118Mb/s "the switch working perfect"

Unfortunately I can't run Update Manager since I dont have a stand alone 64bit server. I need to up date my Virtual Vcenter and (2) ESXI Servers that are running 5.0 Update 2 to Update 3. I am trying to run a Virtual Windows 2012 R2 server and it crashes out every once and a while. It sounds like Update 3 cures that issue.
Is there some where that explains the exact steps to do in order to manually update the servers?

we have 2 ESXI hosts one with public ip(A) and other with private ip(B) address ,
both these esxi hosts are connected to the Vcenter which have private ip , ( all private ip servers are located behind the fire wall )
i need to clone VM form ESXI host (A) to (B ) is there any way to achieve that
issue that i facing is ESXI host A (public ip) cannot communicate with the private ip ESXI host (B) , so that connection get failed is there workaround to achieve that

I just recently upgrade Vcenter to 5.5 from 5.1. I have 3 hosts on 5.1 and so I decided to start upgrading the hosts 1 by 1. I started with host 1 when I did the upgrade via Vcenter the host never came back up. I tried connecting back to the host but couldn't connect. I could ping it and all network settings were correct. I contacted VMware support and we tried many things. One thing I noticed is that it's in lock down mode and its greyed out so I can't change it. I tried changing via command shell and its still greyed out. I reloaded the host and I was able to connect to it but lock down was still greyed out. Vcenter connected and added back to cluster so I left it over night and the next morning I came back to the host with a purple error screen and I could no longer ping it, rebooted, still couldn't ping it. Lock down greyed out. I reloaded it 1 more time and I once again could connect to it with Vsphere and Vcenter. I was working on it all afternoon in Vsphere so I added it back to Vcenter and then after awhile the host disconnected and I no longer could connect again. Every time I reload the host it's always in lock down mode and every time I add it to the cluster it gets disconnected forever. I'm upgrading the host with esxi 5.5 update 1. My other hosts are working fine.

I have a environment of engineer's who maintain their own environment generally. However I noticed most of the hosts don't have vmware tools installed. I would like to see or be alerted at least of the hosts which don't have it. There must be a better way then clicking on each hosts summary page to see if its installed or not. I also know you can make vCenter show you on the list views page if its installed or not.
However i'm sure there is another way to easily get hosts without tools installed, which I can share with the engineers..
I'm trying to test basic functionality of alarm triggering scripts.
I have 3 versions of a simple script containing:
echo "data" >> data.txt
Two for windows: a bat file and a cmd file. One for linux: a sh file
I run the following commands:
c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /c c:\test.bat
c:\test.cmd
sh /root/test.sh
My windows Vcenter 5.1 reports success but the data.txt file is not created.
My linux vcenter 5.5 appliance reports:
Alarm 'Dead_Path_Alarm' on 192.168.1.19 did
not complete script: A general system error
occurred: Failed to run script: Failed to invoke
command: Stream is not initialized
My first instinct was a permission issue, so I've made the necessary adjustments, but no luck.
My second instinct was to explore various quote patterns for the command line, but I've tried every possible combination and no luck.
Help is appreciated.

I use vCenter Appliance (Suse).
I would like to execute shell script on one alarm, and it does not work.
What I have done :
- Create a very short and simple shell script
- name : toto.sh (755) stored on /tmp (777).
- the only line in the script is : echo "my script is running" >> /tmp/toto.txt
- Create an alarm within a VM triggered on VM reconfiguration.
- Create an action as command execution
- Configuration of execution : /tmp/toto.sh
When I generate the alarm, I received an error on the event viewer :
A general system error occurred: Failed to run script: Command exited with non-zero status 127
It seems that vCenter doesn't find my script or can't execute it, but I don't know why !
Does anyone has an idea ?

i have installed vcentre 5.5 and when i tried login using vsphere client it is giving an error "Cannot complete login due to incorrect username and password" . I am giving FQDN and my domain userID and password . Can anyone help here .
Had another conversion fail on me at 97%......Gave me the error "an error occurred during reconfiguration" I looked at the logs but they never make it easy to decipher (they are attached). Any one understand this one? Any help is much appreciated. thanks!
