OK, ran into another web client problem this morning. Ctrl-C isn't being passed through to the VM when using the web client's console application. Tried Ctrl-C, Ctrl-Z, and Ctrl-D (to invoke the usual Linux behaviours with those keystrokes) and the VM doesn't react at all. Typing normal characters works, so the keyboard is being appropriately trapped by the VM, but no ctrl characters. Running Chrome on Mac OS X, vCenter 5.5. What magic is required to get the ctrl characters working again?
No ctrl character passthrough in the Web Client
vCenter in another Site
Hi,
I am looking to move my vCenter Server to our Branch Office instead of the Main office. We are looking to use the Branch Office for BC/DR solution and everything I research basically requires a vCenter in the DR site. I know I will not lose any functionality with the Cluster in the Main Office but what sort of issues should I be concerned with or looking for with having the vCenter Server in the Branch office? Below is out setup
Main Office:
1 Data center
2 Host in
1 Cluster with about 30 VMs
Branch Office:
1 Data Center
1 Host about 10 VMs
Using Site to Site ipsec VPN each site with 10 Mbs or better connection.

vCenter 5.5 Web Client Login - Authenticating hangs for minutes...
I just finished an upgrade on the VCSA from the latest 5.1 to, I assume, the latest 5.5.0b. Upgrade was shockingly fast and clean and, thus far, the only major thing out of sorts (aside from the missing environment variable for Java causing remote consoles to fail - I fixed that) is the login process.
This is a very simple VCSA running all embedded services (database, SSO) with no outside authentication or other complexities. The few user accounts and passwords appear to have come across just fine as well.
Every login works, but the animated "Authenticating" progress bar hangs on the screen for several minutes before allowing the user access. Once in, things appear to work fine (at their usual level of sluggishness, but no worse than 5.1 ever was for us).
Any thoughts on the source of this interminable hang?

Delete small snapshot slow
Hi, we have a DC with 4x ESXi 5.1U1 with vCenter 5.1U1 and vCloud Director 5.1.2 . We use Veeam v7.0 to backup all VM's, and one of the VM's takes a very long time in deleting the snapshot. 12 minutes with only 25MB to commit. The VM itself doenst have any pre-snapshots, and doesnt have any performance issue's. The VM is a Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller. No Windows Event logs around this issue. All VM's reside on the same clustered HP Lefthand storage.
Removing small snapshots of other VM's on same ESXi, same VMFS takes few seconds.
Any idea's what could be the issue here?

Thanks for answers.

Adding VMs to vCenter and removing them
I have a quick question,
I am looking to use vCenter for eval here in our office, with some newly installed VMs on multiple servers. If I add them to the vCenter management, can i physically relocate the VM servers outside of the network that the vCenter server is on and not have any adverse issues and still manage them through the individual vSphere clients?
Thanks
Upgrading vCenter to version 5.5 using a new server
Hello all,
I have vCenter 4.1 and need to upgrade to vCenter 5.5. My vCenter 4.1 is running on Windows Server 2008 SP2 and SQL Server 2008 SP3 database.
The requirement is to have a new server installed with Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 for the vCenter 5.5.
Question is how can I achieve the upgrade of vCenter 4.1 to 5.5 on a different server? is this possible? if yes what are the things to take care off since it's not an in server upgrade.
Looking for your valuable suggestions and information.
Regards,
Nikhil
Vmware Vcenter Appliance upgrade from 5.1.0.10200 to 5.1.0.20000
I am trying to upgrade our Vcenter appliance and and having issues. I had problems with an upgrade in the past and had the remove the hmac files. We have another Vcenter installation that upgraded yesterday without issue. I was able to restore to a snapshot and get Vcenter back up. I have found several posts concerning adding another disk to Vcenter server but this errors I am getting don't match.
Here are the log files from the upgrade attempt:

VMware vCenter Server Appliance
Update to version 5.1.0 Update 1b
I haven't found any information on the following errors:
ERROR: Failed to update DB version
[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect [01000][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open lib '/opt/vmware/vpostgres/9.0/lib/psqlodbcw.so' : /opt/vmware/vpostgres/9.0/lib/psqlodbcw.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Would it be better to do a complete new installation of 5.1 Update 2 and restore? I have never attempted this and not sure how you back up the appliance and how licensing will work.
Thanks,
Joe
Use of SSO? How is it different from LDAP authenication to vCenter server?
I've been trying to understand how exactly Single Sign On is helping me, although I know SSO installation is not optional but I'd like to understand what is the use of it.
Say in my infra I've my two vCenter servers joined to domain attached in linked mode & access to vCenter is granted to domain users/groups.
So now if I've granted access to vCenter to a particular domain user/groups, all they need to do is use their domain credentials to login via vSphere client & that's it.
He gets access to all the required things & doesn't need to re-login any where else to access the components & that's what I guess SSO means, logging in once & have access to all required components.?
Please let me know how is it different then a normal domain authentication which was & is there before SSO was introduced ?
Extend vCenter 5.1 trial period?
Hi all. I am just wondering is there any way to extend the vCenter 5.1 trial period after the initial 60 trial days without re-installing the whole vCenter package. Thank you.
Virtual Center Service Will not start
Hi
We are currently having an issue where our VirtualCenter Server service is stuck between starting and started. I have looked at a few suggestions on here and cannot seem to resolve this issue!
The message received is below
The description for Event ID 1000 from source VMware VirtualCenter Server cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
[ServiceDirectory] Local service endpoint CB98E1A6-6042-4B0F-9733-AB5E7C94C8AC/VIMAPI not registered, distributed services may not be available. Please verify registered service data.
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
Any help on this issue would be gratefully received
Many Thanks
vCenter log of SNMP traps sent
I'm trying to sort out why our SNMP server did not get a trap from vCenter. SNMP is configured and working in/from vCenter, we are missing a specific alarm (type).
Does anyone know if vCenter keeps a log of the SNMP traps it has sent out? Where is that info?
Thank-you.
About vSphere function question
Hi All,
As we knew, VMware has DRS function for Host resourse and Storage.
Why VMware doesn't develop network DRS or vMotion(not mean vSS to vDS)
If ESXi host'network usage is having heavy loading, why not just use this function to balance network resource.
This is my little thought. Welcome to discuss about it
