Guten Tag,

Vielen Dank vorab.

Both accounts tried are in the administrator group.

Source Physical PC has been rebooted and started using both types of admin accounts and each connection scenarios tried.

I have performed all the changes to migrate the vCenter Server database from SQL Express to full SQL Server following the Knowledge Base ( that is posted by  VMware ) its URL is mentioned here  for reference VMware KB: Migrating the vCenter Server database from SQL Express to full SQL Server but still vCenter Server Service is requiring SQL Express db instance dependency at service starting however  i have reconfigure the System DSN according to new DB (That is restored in full SQL Server version after getting backup from SQL_Express) and also modified the registry Keys that are required to vCenter according to document as well.

Please help out.....how can fix this issue.....

vCenter 5.5 and 6.5 Servers within the same vSphere

Hi all,

Can I have both vCenter 5.5 and 6.5 servers in one vSphere?

And can I export my Distributed Virtual Switch config from vCenter 5.5 and import it to vCenter 6.5?

Would doing so crash my vSphere or cause any other problems?

Thanks

prep vcenter 5.5 windows migration to appliance 6.5 should we remove User/Group Administrators; and VSPHERE.LOCAL\Administrator

Hello,

should we remove User/Group Administrators; and VSPHERE.LOCAL\Administrator before migrate to appliance 6.5 ?

The reason we ask is because the upgrade guide indicated

#### Local Windows OS users and groups are not migrated to the Photon OS of the

vCenter Server Appliance 6.5. If you assigned vCenter Server permissions to any Local Windows OS

users and groups, remove the permissions assignments before the migration. You can re-create

Local OS users and groups on the Photon OS of the vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 after the

migration.####

or if we don't do anything, what will happen?

thanks,

(via "cservice-control --status", only vmcam, vmware-imagebuilder, vmware-mbcs,vmware-netdumper, vmware-vcha and vsan-dps are the stopped services)

Hello everybody,

Since few days, I can't login in the vCenter console. I can access the vSphere Web Client and do whatever I want but when I login thought the console or SSH I get this message :

Upgraded to 5.5 and trying to use the new tagging mechanism.  However, I am unable to create any tag categories.  When I attempt to create one, the Associable Object Types list is empty, and as a result, I cannot create the category (and thus cannot create any tags as there are no categories to assign them to).

VCSA Syslog Reporting Levels

$

From https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-65-appliance-configuration-guide.pdf we get the following, concerning the syslog level that is sent by VCSA to an external Syslog server.

With the current "*" setting, we are getting far more messages than we want, and we would only really like VCSA to send Syslog messages at level "error" and above. My reading of the configuration guide suggests that setting the level to "error" won't do this. It will quite literally only allow Syslog messages at error level to be sent. This seems wrong to me, so I firstly wanted to confirm what actually happens. Will VCSA send only error syslog messages, or will it send "crit", "alert" and "emerg" ones too?

3 From the Common Log Level drop-down menu select the log files to redirect.

OptionDescription
*All log files are redirected to the remote machine.
infoOnly informational log files are redirected to the remote machine.
noticeOnly notices are redirected to the remote machine. Notice indicates normal but significant condition.
warnOnly warnings are redirected to the remote machine.
errorOnly error messages are redirected to the remote machine.
critOnly critical log files are redirected to the remote machine.
alertOnly alerts are redirected to the remote machine. Alert indicates that action must be taken immediately.
emergOnly emergency log files are redirected to the remote machine. Emergency indicates that the system stopped responding and cannot be used.

If my interpretation is correct, is there a way to get VCSA to send the multiple levels required I.e. to send all "error", "crit", "alert" and "emerg" syslog messages?

How Best to Configure Networking for Multiple Isolated Lab Environments?

$

We are currently running vSphere 6.  We have a request to configure five isolated lab environments consisting of about 5 VMs per environment.  These environments need to be isolated from one another as well as from the company's network, except... these lab environments need the ability to communicate to an oracle database server that is on the network.  What would be the best method for achieving this?  We were looking at using a separate VMware cluster for the lab environments along with our existing vCenter server for our Test / DR site which is also used to manage several other clusters and approximately 500 VMs.

Migration problems Windows Vcenter SQL Permissions e.c.t

$

Hi to all community from Greece.

a Small history.

We already have an environment which include=

VCenter version 6 on Windows server 2008 r2 and SQL 2008 R2. with Local Active Directory.

7 Esxi host attached with hug number of VM and permissions!

The new plan is to migrate this environment to

Windows 2012 R2

Sql 2014 (Sp1) which support Vcenter 6

Same Vcenter 6 (we don't need to migrate to VCSA or Vcenter 6.5) , we need to keep the same version that we already have with same database entry.

Could anyone help me with step by step migration of (SQL) process in order to complete this scenario with no problems.

I suppose that the problem is the SQL migration!!

Till know i have already done some tries with

1)installation Windows 2012 R2,

2)Join to domain

3)Installation of SQL 2014

4)Restore the old SQL entry (VCDB)

5)Installation of latest version of Vcenter V6

Results:

The environment is up and displayed but no SSL certifications  transferred and no permission or users faced..

Thanks in advance for your help!

A problem was encountered while provisioning a VMware Certificate Authority (VMCA) signed certificate for the provider.

Hi.

I posted the same question on Vshpere topic (A problem was encountered while provisioning a VMware Certificate Authority (VMCA) signed certificate for the provider. ), but i think it more appropriate here, since it concerns Vcenter

I have installed vcenter 6.7 appliance, and when i enter the storage VASA details i get an error message " A problem was encountered while provisioning a VMware Certificate Authority (VMCA) signed certificate for the provider."

The storage unit is an EMC Unity300 using the last firmware.
I tried many things on 6.7 but the only thing that worked is to install Vcenter 6.5u2 appliance (using the exact same info as 6.7) and the process completed successfully.

The os/fm version is 4.3.0.1522077968 (release date 26-Mar-2018).

In Vcenter 6.5u2 vasa provider works fine, but i can't add esxi 6.7 hosts to vcenter.

Attached are the following logs: sps.log and vpxd.log

Is there some bug regarding this in 6.7?

Regards.

Minimal vCenter permissions for a user to upload files to a datastore in 6.5

$
0
0

Hi all,

Recently worked on an upload issue and figured it was worth posting here in case anyone else ever encounters something similar.

Environment:

  • vCenter 6.5 build 5973321
  • ESXi 6.5 build 5310538 (image profile ESXi-6.5.0-4564106-standard)
  • The web browser used to upload files
  • The vCenter account of the user who will be uploading files already has
    • A role containing the privileges "Datastore > Browse datastore" and "Datastore > Low level file operations" applied to the datastore where files will be uploaded
    • The "Read-Only" role applied to the host objects (propagating to children or not) that are mounting the datastore where files will be uploaded

Symptoms:

  • The user can create folders in the datastore browser
  • In the vSphere Web Client (Flex UI) after choosing a file to upload, the UI refreshes but the file is not uploaded
  • In the vSphere Client (HTML5) attempting to upload a file errors with the message "Failed to transfer data. For more information check out the logs."
  • In the vCenter web client log (/var/log/vmware/vsphere-client/logs/vsphere_client_virgo.log) entries similar to the following appear
    • [<date>] [ERROR] data-service-pool-786        70005481 100911 200867 com.vmware.vsphere.client.storage.impl.DatastorePropertyProvider  Not able to acquire generic service ticket for the purpose of file transfer com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NoPermission: Permission to perform this operation was denied.
    • [<date>] [ERROR] http-bio-9090-exec-3         70005482 100912 200867 com.vmware.vise.vim.http.transport.FileUploadRequestHandler       Failed to transfer data to url: https://<esxi_fqdn>/folder/<folder_name>/<file_being_uploaded_name>?dcPath=ha-datacenter&dsName=<datastore_name> java.io.IOException: Error writing request body to server

(apparent) Cause:

  • In order to transfer files to a datastore via a host, the user apparently requires the privilege "Host > Configuration > System Management" applied to the hosts mounting the datastore, NOT the "Read Only" role. The role containing the privilege "Host > Configuration > System Management" for the user does not need to propagate to the children of the host object. Hat tip to petermie and Mincho Tonev in the post User with Administrator role can't upload files to datastores for finding that.

Hope this helps someone down the line.

Vcenter 6.5: Error when i try to upload an ISO on my datastore

Hello Community,

First, i know about the certificate to install on the computer before try to upload something in the datastore

I have a realy strange problem, i have a vcenter 6.5 with multiple cluster.

For a Cluster i have multiple folders with specific rights.

My problem:

When i upload iso, files, ... with my admin account no problem, but when the user try he as got an error message.

2017-09-05 11_28_34-vSphere - SAN-Y-02-01 - Files - Internet Explorer.png

I'm 100% sure about the certificate, because on the same computer if y try with my admin account that working.

Any got the same issue ?

I'm thinking about a rights/role assignement problem, but in the datastore privilege menu all is allowed except remove.

Thanks,

VCSA 6.5 U2 Update Manager UI glitch

$

Hi guys,

Basically I've upgraded our VCSA to 6.5 U2, and want to upgrade one of the hosts using Update Manager.

Uploaded ESXi 6.5 U2 iso image, then wanted to check if there any conflicting VIBs.

I know they are, because I updated same host in other datacenter yesterday, it just took me a while to mount an ESXi iso to virtual KVM console to update the server and during the upgrade one vib was in conflict.

I found that checking for conflicting VIBs can be done (as upgrade itself) using VUM.

But once I uploaded ESXi and then clicked on the host and then Update Manager tab, upper section is so collapsed (just under , os I can't see anything.

Does anyone expereince the same UI glich that I did?
