contentlib folders but no Content Library

Hello,

 

I have two datastores and each one has contentlib-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx folders but I don't have a content library set up (and from what I've read that seems to be the purpose of these folders) - I'm guessing that they are left over from a previous vCenter installation which no longer exists.

 

One of the contentlib folders has two subfolders with xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx names. These folders each contain a vmdk and an ovf file.

 

The other datastore contentlib folder has a single subfolder with two vmdk's, an iso and an ovf file.

 

All of the files in both contentlib folders have the same time stamp from over two rears ago,

 

Is there anything likely to be relying on or running from any of these files? I need to create a bit of free space and these look like good targets to be deleted.

HyperV to VMware conversion fails with Standalone Converter

Hi I am trying to convert a HyperV VM to VMware, but I am getting the error:

"An error occurred during the conversion: 'converter.fault.NoHostConnection'"

fullMessage = "Unable to clone disk C:\ClusterStorage\csv01\a185\Virtual Hard Disks\a185.vhdx on the virtual machine 'a185'.",

The VM has its disk on a ClusterStorage directory.

 

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Mixing a 6.0 and 6.7 VCSA

Hello,

 

I have two hosts, both running ESXi 6.0 and currently one of the hosts has a 6.7 vCenter.

 

Would there be any problem installing a 6.0 VCSA on the other host? For compatibility with a VM backup software that I'm trialing I need a 6.0 VCSA.

vCenter + SRM + vMSC MetroCluster

I was looking for to migrate from traditional topology 2 vcenter+SRM in 2 Sites to vMSC 1 vcenter VCSA+HA in same 2 Sites, then I was thinking in the strategy to migration steps to this topology, here the question.

Can I have two DC, one with 1 vCenter+SRM Primary and the other with 1 vCenter+SRM Secundary for some Cluster hosts ESXi each Site locally with some VMs SRM protected, beside an Metrocluster Storage-vSphere between both Sites with other Cluster HA ESXi hosts and same 1 vCenter primary for other VMs out of SRM, till I migrate all VMs protected by SRM to vMSC and delete SRM??.

6.5 fails to boot OVA imported VM because of bogus nvram file reference

Not sure exactly what the problem is, if that's a problem exporting the VM or a bug in that specific 6.5 version.

 

I use ovftool on Linux to export a virtual appliance from vCenter 6.7.

 

When importing that VM to older versions (6.5, 6.0) people get warnings during the deployment about unsupported options, which is ok, but then they cannot boot the VM because it's looking for a nvram file that's nowhere to be found :

 

Could not create '/vmfs/volumes/5a53fd58-f488e6e0-4129-0025b5aa0000/nabox-test/ovf:/file/file3': msg.fileio.notfound

 

 

It doesn't seem this VMware Knowledge Base applies because my VM isn't EFI.

VMs and installation too much slow

Hi there,

 

I recently started a new job in a company and this one has a VM structure that includes some hosts ESXi 6.0. One of these ESXi hosts is too much slow (really, really slow). Whenever I try to install a VM, this installation takes a long time to finish. For example: I've just tried to install a VM with Windows Server 2012. It started to install about one hour and a half time ago, and so far it didn't finish. Another example: A few days ago, I tried to deploy vCenter Server on this host, but it didn't work properly. The message was "A problem occurred during RPM installation: Timeout". Detail: This process took all day long. Others hosts don't have this problem.

 

What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi,

I am currently running VCSA 6.5 upgraded from Windows VC 6.0..

 

vSphere replication 6.1.1 was running under Windows VC 6.0.

 

The goal is to get to 8.1 with VCSA 6.7 U1.

 

I want to upgrade to 8.1 from 6.1.1

 

Can you tell me the best practices, upgrade path

Guest Customization Network Settings

My vCenter is 6.0 U3, fully patched and I use web client for day to day management.


What I want is the customization to prompt me for IP address, subnetmask and default gateway.  What is happening is it is prompting me for IP address and subnet but not the default gateway.  When I create a VM from the the template and apply the customization the VM doesn't ask for a default gateway.  I created a new customization from scratch and getting same behavior.  The new VM is picking up the default gateway that is set on the VM template.  This is a bit of a problem if I want to have the VM moved to a different VLAN.

Is there some setting I am missing to force the customization to prompt for default gateway in addition to IP and subnet mask?  I really don't want to have customization for each VLAN by hard coding the values.

Upgrade from 6.0 update 3g to 6.5 or 6.7

At some point we upgraded our VCSA with integrated PSC to 6.0 update 3.g.  Last week, we tried to upgrade that to 6.5 and ran into the problem documented at VMware Knowledge Base.  Per that, upgrading to 6.5 and 6.7 are not supported.  This is reinforced at VMware vCenter Server 6.0 Update 3g Release Notes.  So, is 6.7.1 really our only upgrade option?  Our backup vendor does not support this currently so I guess we are stuck.  I wonder if it's possible, although unlikely, to downgrade the current VCSA to allow the upgrade.

Trouble adding ESXi Host to VCenter - Datastore conflicts with an existing datastore in the datacenter that has the same URL...

I have a standalone ESXi Host running 6.5 that I'm trying to add to a VCSA (also 6.5).  When I try to add this host, I'm seeing this failure message:

I have scanned all datastores in vcenter visually and with PowerCLI, and do not see it already existing anywhere.

How do I add Missing columns to List Views in VSphere HTML5 Web Client

On the older  Flash based web client, I could add/remove columns and move columns around on the list views for VMs, Hosts, etc.  How do I do that with the new HTML5 web client?  I would like to customize the columns and their sequence, and persist these.  I also noticed that I can't add "Datacenter" to my VM's List view, nor can I export "Datacenter" as a column with my VM List view.

Unable to log into vCenter 6.7 VMware Appliance Management page

vCenter 6.7 fresh vCenter Server Appliance install with an embedded Platform Services Controller on a 6.5 ESXi host.

Stage 1: Deploy appliance - Completed successfully

Stage 2: Configure appliance - Completed sucessfully

 

When I try to log in as root on the VMware Appliance Management web:5480 page using the IP address of the server, I receive the error. Unable to login, NOT the error Unable to authenticate user. I can successfully log in using the console with root credentials. Used a variety of browsers and validated security settings. Any ideas?

hey guys

 

I have this vDS which has 4 uplinks but the server only have 2 physical NICS - vmnic0 and vmnic1

so I want to remove 2 uplink in the settings for the vDS but it won't let me

 

I get this error message and I am not using LACP or similar just simple vmnics and upllinks

Hi,

 

I have a dvSwitch connected to 2 uplinks (10Gbps each) and currently used for vSAN ONLY but want to add vMotion traffic with no/minimal impact.

What would be the best way to see how much traffic is being used by vSAN prior to the change?

 

Within the Resource Allocation table, if I set the vSAN traffic Share value to 100 and vMotion with a value of 50, would this mean that in contention times vSAN is "only" allowed up to 66% of the total bandwidth of the physical adapters? (100/(100+50))

 

The other system default traffic types/shares are not applicable/part of the share as long as they are not enabled(or active)?

Unable to join vCenter 6.7 to Active Directory

Hi everyone,

 

I have a VCSA 6.7 installed and want to join to domain Active Directory.

- When I try to join domain via UI, I got this error: Idm client exception: error trying to join ad, error code [40188]

- When I try to join domain via CLI, I got this error: Error: ERROR_MEMBER_NOT_IN_GROUP [code 0x00000529]

I found a lot of posts about failing to join vCenter to domain but none of them has the error code [40188] so I don't know how to resolve this problem.

Please help me with this. Thanks!

PowerCLI vSphere 6.7 - Adding VMs to Inventory Causes vCenter Services to Crash

Hello,

 

We have been essentially the following script searching through 25 datastores in a datastore cluster and adding to inventory.  We notcied that this causes the vCenter services to crash out.  Has anyone else come across this issue?  VMware Support have suggested we are overloading vCenter (although this has worked perfectly fine on older versions)

 

My thinking is to remove the -RunAsSync parameter to let the task complete before moving on to the next, and also in the foreach loop for adding the VM, go a Get-VMHost | Get-Random and adding the -VMHost parameter to the New-VM command.

 

Any assistance / advice / thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
