i have vcenter 6.5 and 8 esxi host. now i will instal windows 2012 on esxi A and i will install 2012 on esxi B so we need to rdm disk for sharing disk. right ?
then rdm must be RDM physical mode or virtual mode . i saw lots of document but can you say from here . which mode is true ? which mode should I introduce the rdm disk to the virtual machine

Just wonder that Sharing VMFS Datastores Between Across vcenter Clusters . is it possible and how I can create it. if it is possible and support . why is something needed or done ? just wonder and want to learn it . For example, there is a datastore named datastore1 and you will see esxi's in both vcenter. it will run virtual server on every vcenter in datastore

Kindly suggest the best way to check the logs in details (by changing the date). current version of Hosts and Vcenter server is 5.1

I know how to add permissions but there is no option to view or remove already assigned roles...
Neither I found any possibliity to manage Tag-permissions by powerCLI...

Have created a clone of Prod VMs for a test Environment.
So the vmx, vmxf, nvram files names are the same as Prod vm.

I'm attempting to retrieve ESX Host Power capacities (power.capacity.usage.average/power.capacity.usable.average). I verified the ESX Host contains these values by logging into vSphere, selecting the ESX Server Host, selecting Performance and Power. I wrote a java client which leverages the web service SDK API, specifically I using the PerformanceManager Managed Object Reference. I able to retrieve other performance data such as disk.usage.average but, no matter what I try I can't get the power capacities for the ESX Server host. My code is based on the SDK sample documentation. I'm using an older SDK version, 2.5 but, I'm able to retrieve the power counters described above. Any ideas what I'm doing incorrectly or do I need to upgrade to SDK version 5.0 or higher? Appreciate if someone can guide me in the right direction.

Hi, I'm using workbench installation helper to install staf on my VMs, the storage certification guide says I am suppose to install STAF on the vcenter vm.
However, I get the following error:
I've also tried changing default login shell to bash, but then I receive this error on staf install attempt:
So I had to rebuild my vCenter (vCSA) from scratch, don't ask. With that, my content library was lost. The LUN that the content library was on still has all the iso's and templates I was using. Any idea if there is a way to restore that?
Is there any way to load an ISO file from a datastore into a version 6.5 vcenter's content library?
I'm hoping the content library feature wasn't only designed so I'd have to bring each file down to my client and then re-upload it to a datastore to add it into a content library but so far I'm stumped as to how to do it any other way.
I'm setting a new v Center instance and have noticed that my hostnames are replaced by the ESX management IPs of the hosts. I have already double checked that the machines are named properly in Confgure>Networking>TCP/IP config>Default>DNS. How do I fix this?
Replacing external PSC 6.5 U1 with Microsoft CA certs - they comprise of an Intermediate and Root CA.
All goes well until the very last stage where Services can't start successfully.

What's the best way to P2V a Windows XP machine? I see the standalone converter doesn't list that as a supported guest OS. Unfortunately the software on the machine isn't available anymore so I'm trying to be as un-intrusive as possible so as not to cause any issues with the machine; just want to be able to have a working full backup of the machine in the event the hardware goes.
