The company I work for produce backup software. Recently a customer asked us for the most efficient method of deploying to the free ESXi server produced by yourselves; I installed an instance in our lab and as part of the investigation noticed there is a Standalone Converter. This converter can produce vmware virtual machines from a number of third party (i.e. non-vmware) backup sources.
We were wondering what would be required for our backup images to be added to the supported list?
Our backup images are taken from live systems using VSS and contain the NTFS or FAT32 filesystems, so should be easy to convert. As it stands, we have produced our own tool to convert our image format to VHDs; we would be interested in ensuring we have support for the VMware platform too, as this is a popular virtualisation environment for our customers.
I'm using my personal access as, internally, we don't (yet) have any VMware licenses. I tried registering with my work contact details and submitting a support request to the licensing/enquiries teams, however, I got nowhere. My question is therefore where best do I direct this question to find out if this is something you are interested in and if so begin a dialogue?
