how to manually change the ports for HTTP on vCenter Server

Hello Experts,

We have Windows Server 2008 SP2 machine where we had v5.1 installed with other components SSO, Inventory services, vCenter Server and Update Manager.

So we upgraded SSO, Inventory services & vCenter Server fine however, vCenter Server stopped working. While we were upgrading SSO, the service couldnt start after the upgrade and recd following error "Service VMware KDC service failed to start.". So we found the article on VMware site which stated port 88 to be causing the issue. On finding more using netstat command, we found vpxd.exe was using port 88. Hence, we stopped that service and proceeded with the SSO upgrade. The upgrade completed which followed the Inventory service and vCenter Server. While we were upgrading vCenter Server, we found that port 88 was used for HTTP communication.

So we messed up big time on port usage. The upgrade completed successfully however, we cannot login to vCenter server using either vSphere Client v5.1 or v5.5. We even tried starting the VMware VirtualCenter Server using services.msc console and it failed.

So we are assuming the port changes that happened during SSO upgrade clashes with HTTP port usage by vCenter server. We need help on how to manually change the ports for HTTP on vCenter Server.

Eagerly awaiting any suggestions. This issue is with production servers.

Thanks,

Karan
