How to connect 2 ESXi Server (vSphere 5.5.0U1) with each other

Hi Folks,

until today I only had to deal with stand-alone vSphere-/ESXi-Server. But now there's a new challenge for me where I need your help.

The task is to connect two ESXi server (vSphere 5.5.0U1) for management/failover reasons, shared iSCSI etc. storage is present on the network.

And here is the question: How do I connect both servers so they can see each other? Is it possible to do it by using the vSphere Client on a Workstation or do I need to install vCenter Server?

If so - is it enough to install the vCenter Server appliance on one of the ESXi servers or is a third machine with Win2k8/2k12 necessary? How do I set up the vSwitches correctly to get it work?

2 Testserver-Machines with

2xQuad Xeon 2.2GHz

8/16GB RAM

1x Quad-Port NIC

and one iSCSI LUN 600GB (QNAP)

You see I'm an absolute beginner in connecting together vSphere/ESXi servers. It would be awesome to receive your help as detailed and sonn as possible.

Many many thanks in advance!

Sebastian
