Scripting to start a VM after an event

Hi All

We have a specific requirement to start a VM after an event in the event log.

Reasoning behind this is:

The VM is running on an ESX host that has specific hardware installed (Fusion I/O card) that does not allow the backup solution (Netbackup 7.5.0.6) to take a snapshot and backup the snapshot. So the VM has to be shutdown to be backed up.

We have managed to shutdown the VM and successfully back it up. The backup software is vCentre aware and the process is to take a snapshot of the VM, back that up across the SAN and delete the snapshot.

At this stage the VM is still down but we need the VM to be restarted after the snapshot has been removed. Currently this is done via another scheduled task but would prefer to minimise the downtime and so monitor the event log for the remove snapshot task and then re-start the VM after that.

Either that or any other ideas to achieve the same result would be helpful.

Thanks
