Can a VM template be inventoried by two distinct vCenter Servers?

I think the answer to this is "no", but I haven't actually tried it.

I have an envrionment in which there is a desire to split off production VM infrastructure from non-production, in order to test vSphere patches and other changes.  I am probably going to stand up another vCenter server and attach my QA hosts to this new vCenter server instance.

If I stand up an NFS volume to which all hosts would have access (for hosting ISOs and Templates), would I be able to have my templates be active in the inventory of both vCenter servers at the same time?  I recognize there would be an issue if someone converted the template to a virtual machine, and I'm assuming there would be some kind of lock or something preventing any kind of VM construct (template or not) from existing in both places in the first place.  But I haven't tried it yet.

I realize I could implement this in vCD, but it would seem like overkill to implement that just for this particular task.  This envrionment is only 150 or so VMs, growing at a very manageable rate.

This environment is running vSphere 5.1 and ESXi 5.1 all around.  I do not have any of the other add-ons implemented in this environment other than VUM.

Thanks in advance.
