VDP upgrade issue (6.0 to 6.1.1)

$

Finally was able to get VCSA upgraded from 5.5 U3 to 6.0 update 1 after spending several hours on the phone with support.

I am trying to upgrade two different VDP instances from 6.0 to 6.1.1.  One upgrade has been running over an hour. The other upgrade has been running for slightly less than that.

Both are stuck at the package verification in progress screen. this may take a few minutes.

I have each upgrade running from a separate upgrade iso to avoid any file contention issues.

I have even restarted one of the vdp appliances to rule out the vdp appliance being up for a long period of time.

Still having the problem.

Anyone else seen this problem ?

Unable to import data from vCOPs to vROPs

Hi

We I install vROPs for the first time, I'm unable to get the option to import data from our vCOPs 5.8.2 installed years ago. We must to import that information to get all data values into the new vROPs appliance.

I need a exact version to get import option available?

I need a exact license to get import option available?

Please, see the image that I attach. I can't get the Import option available.

I don't find anything about which requisites I must have to import that information.

Data Service Container Process Heap Memory Alarms

Every so often, I'm seeing these two alarms appear in the WC.

The Data Service container process is running low on heap memory (> 90% utilized.)

Data Service is functioning properly.

They appear and go away within a minute or two every time.  On the Data Service heap memory thing, I did review this KB VMware KB: ESXi/ESX host reports VMFS heap warnings when hosting virtual machines that collectively use 4 TB or 20 T…, but I can't modify the suggested parameters under VCSA 6.  It says it's supposed to just do its job and grow as needed, but to continue to see these pop in and out is bothering me.  It also seems to happen more frequently when a VM CPU usage alarm is triggered.

Does anyone think this is indicative of a bigger problem that I should be concerned about, or is this normal behavior to deal with the amount of activity on the instance?  There are a lot of VMs in use and the datastore is always around 75% full, but CPU and RAM have been 50% or less.  If abnormal, where should I begin to look for any signs of trouble?  RAM capacity of the VCSA or some other config parameter(s) that might need to be tuned?

Hi all,

Ive been plugging away at this for weeks now and made no head ways, I'm really hoping someone on here can help.

Ok so what I currently have is below:

1x HP MicroServer Gen8 (two GB ports)(ESXI 6 u1)

1x Unmanaged GB switch (Netgear GS108?)

On the esxi server I have an instance of Windows server, all I want to do is set up the two network ports on the physical server to act as one, to make one 2GB link, but in a way that my unmanaged switch is OK with...

I currently have both physical cables connected between the switch and the physical server, and vcenter installed.

So I tried to make a Distributed Switch with these settings:

vm1.png

vm2.png

vm3.png

vm4.png

vm5.png

vm6.png

Then I made a port group with these settings:

Port binding - static

Block ports - allowed

Then used the move network option to just move the Windows virtual machine to the Dist port group1, which works,

However, upon starting up the

Unable To Delete Inactive Dump Files

Hi all

I am trying to clean up a couple of inactive dumpfiles.

I have followed instructions to do this but keep getting this error:

Unlink of file /vmfs/volumes/**********************.dumpfile failed: Device or resource busy.

I have identified the owner host via its MAC address.

Of the three dumpfiles both of the two I am trying to remove are flagged as FALSE for "active" and "configured"

I have used the flag --force but still get the above error.

Why is this saying the resource is busy if it is inactive??

thanks

not able to connect to vcenter after upgrading to 6.0 by using web client

Hi,

Recently I have upgraded vcenter from 5.5 to 6.0.

After that I have not been able to login vcenter using web client.

However it is really wired that login using window client is working correctly.

I have noticed that there is sso url redirection to following location when I try login using web client.

https://sqa-vcenter-61.ad.ahng.com/websso/SAML2/SSOSSL?RelyingPartyEntityId=aHR0cHM6Ly8xMC4yLjQuNjEvdnNwaGVyZS1jbGllbnQvc2FtbC93ZWJzc28vbWV0YWRhdGE=

The FQDN in the url was ip address like 192.168.10.22 but it has been changed during upgrade.

Though I have avoided the problem by adding the ip address in the windows hosts file, I can’t force lots of people here to change the hosts.

I do hope there is someone already fixed this problem and kindly help me.

Thanks,

vROps Mgr displays dates backwards (US style) and 12 hr time (AM/PM) - how do I change it?

$

Hi. I'm trying to figure out how to make vROps Mgr 6.1 to display times and dates in proper standardized ISO 8601 format (YYYY-MM-DD and HH:MM:SS) and 24-hour clock instead of the semi-backwards dates and AM/PM weird times.

Searching the vROps docs and this forum for "time format" and "date format" doesn't produce any clues. Any ideas?

(The ISO 8601 date format standard has been in effect since 1988, so it's kind of time to make the switch now, VMware.   (xkcd: ISO 8601) )

VM will not powerup after SRM

$

I recently performed an SRM failover and 1 of the 6 VM's in question wouldn't power up after.

On inspection of the .vmx file, I saw that it seemed to lose a mapping of one of it's hard disks. Thankfully I had a copy of the original .vmx so it was relatively easy to identify the correct Disk mapping.

I'm wondering why this may have happened ?

The first few Hard Disks were mapped as follows and were all ok after the SRM,

scsi1.virtualDev = "pvscsi"

scsi1.present = "TRUE"

scsi1:0.deviceType = "scsi-hardDisk"

scsi1:0.fileName = "myservername02_1.vmdk"

scsi1:0.present = "TRUE"

scsi1:1.deviceType = "scsi-hardDisk"

scsi1:1.fileName = "myservername02_2.vmdk"

scsi1:1.present = "TRUE"

scsi1:2.deviceType = "scsi-hardDisk"

scsi1:2.fileName = "myservername02_3.vmdk"

scsi1:2.present = "TRUE"

The last Disk should have been mapped as follows after the SRM

scsi2.virtualDev = "pvscsi"

scsi2.present = "TRUE"

scsi2:0.deviceType = "scsi-hardDisk"

scsi2:0.fileName = "/vmfs/volumes/VMFS_SharedStorage_3154_BPM_LOG1_3696/myservername02/myservername02.vmdk"

scsi2:0.present = "TRUE"

instead it was mapped as

scsi2:0.fileName = "/vmfs/volumes/565fc9d6-4eb63031-9ce1-0025b506011e/myservername02/myservername02.vmdk"

Does anyone know why this may have happened and more importantly, what could be done to prevent it from happening again ?

Unfortunately, a different Team looks after Storage so I'm not able to directly answer any Storage related questions you may have

thanks

How to bind multiple vCO workflows to one vcac state change worklfow?

$

0

I'd like to be able to bind more than 1 customized vCO worklflow to the ExternalWFStubs.BuildingMachine State Change but vCAC won't allow me to do this (Indicates the State Change Workflow Name is already in use which therefore prevents me from adding another Value to this Custom Property at the Blueprint Level).

Is this possible? I have 2 separate custom workflows that perform different actions required to be executed during the building state change; 1 creates a new DNS entry while the other creates a new Computer Object in AD. For the record, I also have another vCO customized workflow that is executed during the ExternalWFStubs.MachineProvisioned State Change, so this is not an option either.

Do I need to combine all the Actions in one customized vCO workflow and then associate this workflow with the Machine Building State Change (Stub)WF...???

Thanks. Ron

Update

I answered part of my own question. Combining all the workflows into 1 customized vCO will do the trick. I would still like to know however if there is an easier way to achieve this by (perhaps) associating multiple vCO Workflows to the same ExternalWF Stub..??

Thanks. Ron

Is there a way to allow orchestrator to 'know' where it was started from in the vcenter web client and import that item into the workflow that is being run so that the user doesn't have to select it?

For example, I want to be able to right click a vm and execute a workflow....

And have it not ask me to select a VM...or at the very least auto populate the field for me:

SSL Handshake Error with External SOAP Host

$

Hi all,

I previously got Orchestrator 5.5 working with our external Service Now instance where we can order a VM in the SN catalog and Orchestrator will provision it via a SOAP call to the Orchestrator API. However, now since I upgraded Orchestrator (we use the appliance) to 6.0, it is giving an SSL Handshake error on the SOAP request from Service Now. I have a snapshot backup of the appliance from before the upgrade, but I'd obviously rather not revert if I don't have to, as the rest of the Orchestrator functionality seems to be running just fine. It's only this API thing that is giving me an issue. Any ideas? I'll post the full XML error below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><results error="javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure" probe_time="31"><result error="javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure"><output/></result><parameters><parameter name="topic" value="SOAPProbe"/><parameter name="queue" value="output"/><parameter name="error" value=""/><parameter name="from_sys_id" value=""/><parameter name="sys_id" value="00a06235dd2f3100c4c8a38a5ee758e6"/><parameter name="state" value="ready"/><parameter name="sys_created_on" value="2015-04-21 19:08:59"/><parameter name="from_host" value=""/><parameter name="agent" value="mid.server.servername"/><parameter name="processed" value=""/><parameter name="ecc_queue" value="00a06235dd2f3100c4c8a38a5ee758e6"/><parameter name="response_to" value=""/><parameter name="source" value="https://orchestratorname:8281/vco/vmware-vmo-webcontrol/webservice"/><parameter name="sequence" value="14cdd6227690000001"/><parameter name="name" value="test"/><parameter name="table_name" value="ecc_queue"/><parameter name="agent_correlator" value=""/></parameters></results>

Changing Hostname of vCenter 6 Appliance

$

Why do I get this error on my (freshly installed) vCenter appliance

The "Edit node settings" operation failed for the entity with the following error message.

com.vmware.appliance.version1.networking.dns.hostname.set: Hostname is used as network identity, set operation is not allowed.

Details: {}

Yet the documentation from VMware seems to imply this should not be an issue

For the record, the only change I am making is in capitalization (chaning "hostname" to "HOSTNAME").

Any suggestions?  I cannot seem to find where "network identity" connection is (per the error).

Anyone succesfull with 6.0.0

I have been working all day on a single machine standard and clean MS Windows 7 64bit enterprise.

This OS is not uncommon but spells a world of trouble for VMWare Converter standalone 6.0.0.

To the point that makes me wonder if this production software. I'm just posting in the many many error messages I have seen throughout the day.

I managed to find workarounds for most of the issues untill I hit

FAILED: Unable to create '\\.\vstor2-mntapi20-shared-C37ABC700000F015000000000C00

This turns out to be a show stopper. There is no way of fixing this.

Which made me wonder. What OS is VMWare Converter supposed to support? It is not MS WIndows 7 for sure.

Is this maybe only for server OS software? Not desktop OS.

Privileges for OpenLDAP authenticated user

$

I have a vCenter 6.0 instance which uses an OpenLDAP identity source (actually on a RedHat 389 Directory Server), and I notice there are some differences between the available 'Administration' menu items when logging in as an externally managed LDAP user than for a local SSO Domain user. If it's relevant this installation uses an external PSC.

These differences are:

'Single Sign-On' item is missing for the external LDAP user

'Solutions > Client Plug-Ins' item is missing for the external LDAP user

'Deployment > System Configuration' shows 0 Nodes and Services, and the message "You do not have permissions to view this page. You must be a member of the SystemConfiguration.Administrators group in vCenter Single Sign-On to access System Configuration.".

If I try to add the external LDAP user to SytemConfiguration.Administrators group (or any other group) I get an error saying that 'One or more of the specified principals was already part of the group'.

Is it possible to have the same privileges for the externally authenticated users as for local users, and, if so, how is this achieved?

Thanks in advance.
