400 and 503 errors and vpxd service errors - vcsa 6.7

$

Hello all,

I have been trying to troubleshoot the below 400 and 503 errors after rebooting my vcsa 6.7 Update 1. I have been attempting to implement custom CA's and have been successful with my two ESXi hosts but not vCenter.

400 Error.PNG

503 Error.PNG

I have a snapshot of vcsa which I keep reverting too, and noticed in the vpxd.log file that I am receiving the following errors. When I reboot vcsa, the VPXD service fails to start and I have to revert back to the snapshot.

Before rebooting vcsa: "Error vpx settings"

After rebooting vcsa: "host name does not match the subject name(s) in certificates."

vpxd_log error.PNG

I have attempted many of the suggestions previously posted in the community that experienced similar issues without success.

What other log files should I be looking at to figure this problem out? Any additional troubleshooting steps would be appreciated as I have been racking my brain for the last few days trying to figure this out.

missing quick filters on vcenter 6.7

$

Hi guys, I'm testing vcenter 6.7 and noticed I could not find the quick filters that I used to on earlier versions where I can check for example if vmtools are updated or not.

I checked the documentation here and it seems fairly straight forward https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-672-host-management-guide.pdf

Procedure 1 From the vSphere Web Client, open a list view. You can access list views of objects from the Inventory Lists and the search results. 2 Click Show and hide quick filters ( ) next to the filter box, and select from the available options. vCenter Server and Host Management VMware, Inc. 31 A list of inventory objects that meet your selection criteria is displayed.

The only filter there is available for me is to filter by VM name and that is it, I wonder if the menu collapsed or is hidden but I can;t find any way to display the options stated that should be available.

Any thoughts?

Vcenter Server Appliance 6.7 update 1, latest build - incorrect Eclipse Jetty version listed?

$

VCSA 6.7 update 1, latest build (10244745) from mid October.

Documentation lists that eclipse /Jetty was updated to v 9.2.24.

however, if you check, the actual version is Jetty 9.4.10.v20180503.

Before the upgrade, the actual version was 9.4.7.v20170914

That would seem to indicate that this is an error in the documentation (v9.2.24 being wrong).... OR, VMware is using a different versioning in what is listed in the documentation/release notes than the actual software version (ie, 9.2.24 internal to VMware ==> 9.4.7.... raw eclipse version).

Can anyone comment on this?

vCenter 6.0 2-3 hours after the launch is lost access to it

good day

I have such a trouble

The esxi 6 virtual environment is installed on a separate machine on which a virtual machine is installed with vCenter 6.0 2-3 hours after the launch, access to it is lost !!! Access is lost through both the web client and the VMware vSphere Client, although ssh access remains. In turn, the vcenter is connected to the VEEM software that backs up the virtual machines, so when the vcenter runs, the backups go fine as they lose access they work 10 times and there is always no authentication with the vcenter. esxi 6 vcenter 6 proupdeyteny completely.

VEEM reports this error

Processing ServerTekomLife Error: Cannot authenticate user. Soap fault. Detail: '', endpoint: '' SOAP connection is not available. Connection ID: [192.168.2.210]. Failed to create NFC download stream. NFC path: [nfc://conn:192.168.2.210,nfchost:host-28,stg:datastore-29@ServerTekomLife/ServerTekomLife.vmx].

And yes, and if you start VMware vSphere Client and go into the console there, then visually everything seems to be fine. I'm still young in this business if you tell me I’ll get it and show it

VCSA GUI Installer Showing Blank White Window - No Options

$

Anyone else see this issue?  (See screenshot).  When installing VCSA 6.7 from Windows using the GUI installer, it opens and begins to start, but the Installer Window doesn't show the expected "Install, Upgrade, Migrate etc" Options.  This fails from a Win2k12 Server and Windows 10 VM.

The same installer image works fine from my desktop workstation.  I saw one suggestion to delete the %appdata%\installer folder on the system, but this had no impact.

Not sure what I'm missing...

Looking for ideas.

Which vCenter to upgrade first

$

I have 2 vCenter connected by linked mode. There's production site and DR site. Both version are 6.0U3. The vCenters are planned to upgrade to 6.5U2.

I read through the article saying the proper upgrade method is to upgrade the PSC on both sites first then only upgrade the vCenters. Which site PSC need to be upgraded first?

vcenter server unable to find a master VSphere HA agent in cluster...

$

Last night I tried upgrading to VCenter 5.1 and had problems after the install where I could not log in.  Being late, I failed back to a snapshot version of my VCenter server taken just prior to the upgrade.  After I was able to back into VCenter all my hosts, clusters and VM's were available.   But my clusters are all erroring with VCenter Server unable to find a master VShpere HA agent in cluster.  Each host under the cluster has an error:  VSphere HA agent for the host has an error:  The VShpere HA agent is not reachable from VCenter Server.

Under vCenter advanced settings for SSL, if I check the vCenter requires verified host SSL certs, there are no servers showing up in hosts window.

Being a production environment, I'm hesitant to remove the hosts from vcenter, even in disconnect mode, without some assurance that I'm not going to lose my hosts and I'm going to lose my guests or not be able to bring the host back into an HA environment.

Remote backup of vCSA failing after upgrade

$

Hi everyone,

I have two vSphere clusters (Foundation in my test lab and Enterprise Plus in production). I have been running daily backups on the vCenter servers since upgrading to 6.5 months ago. I use the bash script in the VMware documentation. Everything has been going great and backups have been successful. The other day I upgraded the vCSA from 6.5u1c to 6.5u1e (6.5.0.14000). The upgrade itself went OK except for the ability to run remote backups.

For my vCSA running in my test lab cluster, nothing has changed. I can still run local backups via the GUI and I can still run remote backups via the script. All is good.

For my vCSA running in my production cluster, I can run backups from the GUI. However when I try to run the bash script, the backup starts and then immediately stops. The backup log contains the start of the backup run and then errors indicating authentication errors: I'm no longer getting scheduled backups from my production cluster.

Starting backup 2018-01-29-08-50-17

Backup job completion status:

To eliminate any potential problems with firewalls, etc, I tried running this locally on the vCSA itself. I got the exact same result. I looked at the /var/log/vmware/vapi/endpoint/endpoint.log and noticed that every time I tried to run the script I got java errors and the message "Failed to create child session with session manager com.vmware.cis.session for session Administrator@VSPHERE.LOCAL".  I've attached a copy of the log messages showing the session messages and java errors that I'm getting.

Has anyone had similar problems? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this?

THANKS for any help.

Pat

Make it Easy- ESXi host and vCenter cluster management during maintenance/upgrade

$

For those who usually face the sluggishness of the web client when it comes to managing the multiple ESXi hosts and cluster during the regular maintenance jobs like patching and upgrades.

I have built a small dynamic tool on PowerShell with GUI that provides the following capabilities.

1. Manage ESXi hosts- Put one or multiple hosts into maintenance mode, Exit one or multiple hosts out of maintenance, Disable/Enable Alarms.

2. cluster Management - Disable/Enable HA, Disable/Enable DRS, Set Admission control

Prerequisites:-

1. Powershell 2.0 and above.

2. VMware vCLI should be installed.

3. Connectivity to the vCenter from the system from where the tool will be used.

Instruction to use:-

1. It will ask you to connect to your desired vCenter by entering the VC hostname and credentials with required privileges to manage the hosts and cluster.

2. once connected, you can hit the manage button at the bottom that will give you two options that are aforementioned.

3. By clicking on the respective button you manage ESXi hosts and cluster respectively.

Disclaimer- This tool has been tested against VC version 6.0 and 6.5. I would insist you to use it in your test environment before you try in production as the risk is unknown. Also, one should be well versed with these aforementioned operations or changes pertaining to the ESXi/cluster before using the tool in production as the impact might be critical if not done cautiously.

VMware Converter KVM to VMware

$

Hello

I am doing some testing to convert some KVM machines ( Debian 9 ) and I receive the following error when the final stages are reached.

FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'GrubInstaller::InstallGrub: /usr/lib/vmware-converter/installGrub.sh failed with return code: 127, and message: FATAL: kernel too old Error running vmware-updateGrub.sh through chroot into /mnt/p2v-src-root Command:

chroot "/mnt/p2v-src-root" /vmware-updateGrub.sh

It is surprising that the error related to 'kernel too old' as it is a latest kernel on Debian 9.

I am running the latest VMware Convert 6.2.0 on Windows.

Destination machine - vSphere 6.7 U1

I note from research that older versions of VMware Converter uses GRUB1 and GRUB2 is needed however this seems only applicable to older version of VMware Converter.

The source machine is NOT using LVM and has one partition located in /

Any advice would be appreciated.
