We have the vCenter Server Appliance (using the embedded database option) currently in use in our ESXi 5.1 environment and from my understanding, it is limited to only 5 hosts/50VMs. While we are still in the early stages of configuring our environment, and although we have a number of VMs and about 3 hosts configured already, there is a possibility that we may have as many as 16 hosts in the future, and we would like to be prepared to, at the very least, exceed 5. Is there a straightforward method or instructions for moving from a VCSA to a Windows Server VM with a separate VM running a SQL database without wiping out the information already in the current database and/or starting over from scratch, and/or overlapping the current installation? Is it good practice to run vCenter Server as a VM with another VM running the database? What is the best way to go about doing this? Thanks in advance.
