Hi Folks,
I've currently got vCenter 5.0 (db on sql 2005 sp4), 3 hosts with ~81 vm's, backed up by BE 2010 R3.
I've got to update pretty much the whole infrastructure, but I am stuck.
I can upgrade vCenter and the hosts to 5.0U2, that's as far as I can go and still back things up with the current version of BE.
I want to look at Veeam, but am unsure of the implementation (like can I install it on the same server as my BE, I have a physical hardware shortage atm)
There is tremendous pressure to upgrade the sql 2005 (it's the main production db for the company), but as of yet, vCenter doesn't support SQL 2012.. and I don't want to upgrade to SQL 2008 R2 now, and then have to do it again whenever the vmware devs finally decide its time to support a year old DB. (this does not make my dev team happy, as they want SQL 2012 NOW, but the boss won't authorize buying another production SQL license, which isn't cheap)
I can't upgrade all the way to 5.1, as BE / Symantec is taking their sweet time getting that working.
Not being able to spin up Win Svr 2012 vm's is holding me back for other projects.
Can you tell I'm a little stressed?
I truly don't know which way to turn.. does anyone have any thoughts to not have to do parts of this more than once?
