Hi
I am trying to set up granular rights to allow a systems administrator to manage the VM's and datastores that he is responsible for.
- I created him a resource pool under our production cluster which contains all of his VM's, and have given him Administrator rights at that level.
- I also gave him Administrator rights on his four datastores individually.
The issue is that he is trying to move files/folders between the datastores. These contain VM's that have been shutdown and removed from inventory. The 'Move Items To...' dialogue comes up, and he can expand the datacenter to reveal his datastores, but as soon as he clicks one of them he gets a pop up box that says 'Permission Notification, Datastore Browser: You do not have permissions to alter files on this datastore'. This confuses me, as even though he has full Administrator rights and is able to perform tasks with an individual datastore, but is not able to perform actions between datastores.
I temporarily gave him Administrator rights at the datacenter level to confirm that he was able to perform the move otherwise.
Does anybody know how I can give him the permissions that he requires to move files/folders between his datastores without giving him visibility to the rest of our production environment?
We are running a vCenter 5.1 environment (799731).
Thanks in advance.
Matt
