I have 2 machines on a ESX Host. Once is a webserver and one is a client. Both machines are running versions of linux.
The ESX cluster is all at 5.1
I set up a port mirror to span just the one vDS port that the webserver is attached to a remote location.
I then have a constant curl from the client to the webserver.
At the remote location where I am analyzing the data. I only see UDP broadcast traffic.
I see no unicast traffic, and no http traffic.
When I do a esxtop and look at networking, I don't see the traffic rate I would expect for my uplink port.
When I stop the curl, the traffic rate does not diminish, so I think it is only UDP and broadcast. If I disable the port mirror, that traffic does go away.
I have the port mirror set up to do ingress and egress packets from the virtual port.
