One thing I never liked (or understood) is how to keep track of RDM's. If you had the option of naming them in vcenter so you could give it a user friendly name that included the lun name and storage array, that would be great.
I have many rdm's attached to vm's in my vcenter 5.1 environment. I know I can match the lun id's up (via edit settings, manage paths, etc.), but that's only if I know which vm and which storage array. I have four storage arrays with rdm's attached from all of them.
I have a problem with the oldest array that we're trying to vacate. The luns have old names that don't help me locate the vm they might be attached to. I've run a command in PowerCLI to output all rdm's, but there was too many and that didn't help.
Does anyone know a way to match a fiber channel lun to a vm (without manually opening up each vm's settings)? Is there a PowerCLI command to perhaps narrow it down by array?
