Migrating vcenter to a new forest - would this approach work?

Hi All,

I have a distributed vcenter 5.5 environment running on Windows Server 2012. It's 1 x VCenter, 1 x SSO, 1 x Inventory Service, 1 x web client, 1 x SQL Server + 1 x VUM.

I want to move to my new Server 2012 R2 infrastructure (which is on a new AD Forest, which has no trust relationship with th forest the existing vcenter is on), so a side-by-side upgrade (another vcenter windows installation). The only thing I really care about is preserving my distributed vswitch setup. I don't mind reconfiguring NSX, VCops etc to work with the new vcenter server (compatibility aside) but the distributed switch config is important.

I have backed up the distributed vswitch config from web client on my existing vcenter. If I build a brad new vcenter 6 infrastructure and import my switch config via web client ie as described below:

http://www.vxpertise.net/2013/06/migration-of-a-distributed-switch-to-a-new-vcenter-important-things-to-know/

Would this work? VCenter would have a new IP but be reachable, would I need to change any config on esxi itself? IE a link mentioned running some linux cmds.

I have just one esxi host on my vcenter. W

Would I need to convert my vm's to the vss VM Network switch?

Most importantly, would this approach work?

Thanks
