Hi. I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this problem.
I have installed ESXi 5.1.0 U2 on a desktop system with an ASUS P5WD2-E motherboard. The system has 8Gb of memory, a 128Gb SSD, and a 1Tb hard disk. ESX is installed on the SSD drive. The system restarted fine following the installation. After changing the IP Address and DNS configuration, ESX restarted again, but this time hung at the BIOS splash page. The only way to correct this was to remove the BIOS battery, wait a couple of minutes, re-insert the battery and boot the server.
Unfortunately, every time I try to re-boot ESX, the same problem occurs. If I simply force a power down, it's OK. I patched the motherboard with the latest BIOS version, but it hasn't changed the situation.
I had Windows 8 installed on the SSD prior to the ESX installation; and still have Windows 2012 installed on the Hard Disk. Neither of these Operating Systems caused the BIOS to hang at the splash page. Only ESXi 5.1 does.
Anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?
Thank you.
Andre Fischer.
