I have a Netapp server that runs NFS. I connect my VMware servers to it via NFS. The VMs on these datastores work just fine, but I like to use VMware Vcenter Converter Standalone to make backup copies of the servers while they are running. I noticed that taking this backup is much much longer on the NFS datastore, than the VMs that run on local disks. I have disabled SSL, and allotted the maximum data connections and concurrent tasks. To make it more stark, I have 2 VMs with similar disk space. The one on local disks takes about 2 hours to take backup to another server. The NFS datastore VM says it is going to take 7 days! Is there a better way to make a backup copy? Or how can I make this process faster? My VMware server is ESXi 5.5 and the converter is also 5.5. Any help would be appreciated.
