Best way to set up replication/HA?

I am having some trouble coming up with a solution in regards to running HA or replication -

I have two separate ESXi vSphere 5.5 hosts which are both at different physical locations. There will be one VM running on each, and I need to have the ability to fail over either VM to the other ESXi host if needed, and then fail it back over to the original site.

I have looked at vSphere replication and vSphere HA but i'm not coming up with any doable solutions.

Both ESXi hosts are Dell R720 servers. There are no SANs involved.

Any ideas?
