Hi,
I have a silly question about Storage over-commitment. One of our customer want to install OS with 100 GB using thin provision but they can provide only 50 GB LUN for that server. So they just installed the OS (REDHAT) using thin provision and 100 GB. After the OS installation, it throws the error saying that "There is no more space for virtual disk". Please see the attached screen shot.
However when the VM is down, there is 48 GB free space and only 2 GB is used. Honestly , I am not familiar with over-commitment and don't know how to explain my customer. Can anyone advice what may be the root cause? Can we use over-commitment like that? Is the any recommendation for storage over-commitment?
How many percentage can over-commit in storage?
Thanks
