Cannot delegate SSO permissions for Administrator

We have upgraded our entire vSphere setup from 4.1 to 5.5, with a brand new vCenter Server VM running in 2008 R2. Four hosts were also clean installs (not upgraded). We connected everything to the domain, and when we set up SSO it was very simple and worked without any problems. However we need to change the default SSO login, or at least add another account with the same exact privileges and permissions - something that would mirror the default Administrator@vsphere.local login. This is primarily for remote access, we would like a separate account for that.

Within Single Sign-On, under Users and Groups, I added an account called root and mirrored the settings for the default Administrator account. But when I log into the vCenter as root the inventory is empty. Logging in as Administrator and everything is back in the inventory.

Is this due to AD not recognizing the root account? Or is this a SQL instance error on the vCenter Server VM? Any help would be appreciated -
