Hi,
I have ESXi 5.1 server (free edition) with 8 NIC's in which 4 nic's will be used for LAN traffic and other 4 nic's will be used for iSCSI traffic. I also use an iscsi storage box were my datastore is present, an L3 switch for LAN traffic and another L3 switch for iscsi traffic (which is only used for communication between the ESX server and iscsi storage and cannot be accessed from any of my VLAN). I want to know if the nic teaming i have done is correct. Since it is free edition i am going to enable vmotion. I have attached the network configuration snap (nic_1.jpg).
For lan traffic, i have connected 4 nic's directly to a core switch through which users will be able to access the VM's. I have trunked the 4 ports on switch side and enable nic teaming on vmware side. Please let me know if my settings on vmware side is correct. I am attaching the snaps for reference. (nic_s0_1.jpg, nic_s0_2.jpg, nic_s0_3.jpg).
For iscsi traffic, i have connected 4 nic's directly to an L3 switch which will communicate with the iscsi storage. No changes has been done in this switch for teaming. Only changes has been done on esxi server. This switch will be in different ip segment from my lan segment and will commincate only with esx server and storage. I will be able to access the storage only using the management IP for managing the box. I am attaching the snaps of the switch properties (nic_iscsi.jpg).
Regards,
Bala
