USB drive not connecting to VM in vSphere 5.1

I am running vCenter 5.1  build 799733.  I created a Windows 2008 Server  R2 VM.  When I plug in a thumb drive (sandisk) into my desktop PC and then go to the VM and click on the icon to connect USB device SanDisk, it will not connect.

If I click on the icon it shows

            USB Device 1 (Connecting…)

It never connects,

I tried to rebooting the VM, removing/ejecting the USB, reading the USB VM Controller, but it still does not connect,.

Any ideas?
