Ok, my two engineers are going to strangle each other unless I settle this argument!
We are a small IT company making our first foray into a private cloud infrastructure. We purchased two IBM server with 20 cores and 256 gigs of RAM and we purchased a SAN that connects via SAS cables.
In spinning this up, one engineer is saying we should just do HA (high availability) and the other is saying FT (fault tolerance). Both make some good arguments.
The HA guy says the VMs will boot once the first host is down and that they boot from a cold start and it takes a few seconds to get back up.
The FT guy says there is no down time and if we want to offer true uptime, we need to go FT.
The HA guy says FT is single CPU and no snapshots.
I'm confused.
With two hosts and one SAN, what would some of you guys do and why?
Thanks
Cliff
