Hello Everyone -- I need help!
I desperately need to "clone" a web/database server that is running in a remote data center. I do not have physical access to the box, but I can access it by RDC.
"Clone" might not be the correct VMware terminology -- but what I need to do is get a complete copy of the server, OS and all, in a way that will allow me to run it as a shell on a VM Workstation.
I'm afraid that I have only the most basic VMware knowledge and I'm looking for somebody who can tell me how to pull this off without harming the original server.
The target server is an aging 32-bit MS Server 2003 box. The software engineer responsible for the care and maintenance of the application that runs on the server disappeared 5-months ago without a trace. With his disappearance we lost access to the staging systems used for product upgrades and testing.
What I would like to be able to do is "clone' the server into a VMware shell that I could then mount in a VMware Workstation and also so that we can migrate the application to a new box before the current box dies completely.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
