I'm struggling my head to correct understand vlan setup on esx host and physical switch.
Please could you help me to understand the things and correlate them?
I would like to configure some vlan´s for my enviroment to reduce the network trafic for some servers.
One of these server is vCenter.
So I would like to configure the vlan for my server.
Is this way correct?
First - Configure in my physical switch a VLAN ID, let´s suppose ID 1010
This ID must be in the esx port right? So let´s suppost it´s vmnic0
So I have vmnic0 - phisycal switch VLAN ID 1010
Second - I must configure this nic in my vcenter server and set esx VLAN ID to 1010.
Is it right?
If yes, how my computer will connect to vcenter console? Because the ping will not reach the server, they are in different vlans
