Hi,
We recently inherited a site with 4 x esxi hosts. These 4 hosts are in pairs of similar hardware, one pair HP, one pair IBM.
Hardware is identical between the HP pair and hardware is identical between IBM pair.
So a total of 4 hosts in pairs of different hardware.
The pairs of hosts are connected to 2 different SANs. It is possible that at some point we may have 1 pair access storage from the other SAN but no plans yet.
So question
Is it suggested to have each pair of hosts in 2 different clusters? I mean since the likelihood that Vmotion will not be compatible between the 2 pairs of hosts.
Is there any advantage at all to have these in a single cluster?
I understand that a cluster uses N+1 so if you have 3 hosts you need a 4th to survive a host failure, or if you have 4 hosts in a cluster you need a fifth to survive a host failure.
In my case since the hardware is not identical I imagine I cannot configure my cluster in a 3+1 config.
Thanks
