Hi
Hopefully some one can answer this in plain simple terms.
We have Vcenter Server 5.1 build 799731
The vcenter server is sat on one of 3 ESX hosts
The 3 ESX hosts are 5.1.0 799733
All 3 are in one data center called SSS within that one SSS Data center we have two clusters called
Building 1 and Building 2
two of the ESX Hosts are in building 1 and the other is in building 2, they are two separate physical locations only couple hundred yards but still separate but on same LAN subnet etc two buildings connected by fibre.
We are fully licenced for HA and Fault Tolerance and Vmotion etc.
ONE ISSUE WE HAVE WITH THE UPGRADE OR AT LEAST I ASSUME ITS AN ISSUE I COULD BE MISTAKEN, BUT THATS WHY IM ASKING HERE.
We are a 24/7 operation and it is a huge huge deal for us to turn off some of the VM Guests that run on some of the 3 hosts.
So can we VMotion the guests over to one host, then upgrade that empty host to 5.5 then vmotion the guests back across
or
Do the guests have to be on the Host when it is upgraded from 5.1 to 5.5 so they are captured within the upgrade process so to speak and upgraded themselves.
We do not have the upgrade manager installed I was just going to do it physically by popping the CD into each of the 3 hosts one at a time as we only have 3
