Connect-VIServer in PowerCLI does not except user name and password

When I run the command:

connect-viserver <host> -user root - password <password> I receive

Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password.

I did check out:

Neither resolved the issue.  In fact the second article explains a log file in which I don't even have that log directory????

Any help would be appreciated.
