Changing IP address of an already deployed vcentre 5.5.

Hello there,

I've deployed a new vcentre 5.5 installation on windows 2012 standard. I should start by saying that this is an automated install via microsofts MDT toolkit, although in the grand scheme of things this is a moot point and fairly irrelevant. The deployment has been installed with the FDQN of the host (In this case 'vcentre') for each of the roles that are installed, SSO, Inventory, vCentre, WebClient.

The object here is to update the hosts IP address to a new static IP and retain full functionality with the new address.

Once all services are installed and the host has been tested as working to change the IP address I've stopped all vmware services and updated the IP address of the host.

These additional steps have been completed;

1. I've updated the old IP with the FQDN that vmware places in C:\programdata\VMware\VMware VirtualCentre\vpxd.cfg

2. I've updated the old IP with the FQDN that vmware places in C:\programdata\VMware\VMware VirtualCentre\proxy.xml

3. The registry key for the SSO server called Fqdnip has been updated to the new IP value, this key is located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\Fqdnip

4. Host file on the vcentre has been updated with the new IP

I am aware there is also an entry of the host IP in the CIS directory data.mdb. This database is password protected however running a grep for the old system IP on the file returns a match. I've tested removing the CIS folder as it seem to be rebuild when restarting the vcentre service.

With these changes completed, I am able to start all required services. When attempting to log in with the web client I receive the error that the web client was unable to contact the lookup service, it provides the URL that it attempted to connect on and it's using the old IP address of the server.

Has anyone had any luck with changing the IP address of a vcentre install? Do they have any recommendations or suggestions on a process to use. Where is the lookup service getting this IP address from?

Any comment is appreciated..
