what does number of uplink means exactly in vds

Hi

can you say me clearly what does uplink means during vsphere distributed switch creation?

i imagine it is mention how many physical adapter i want use from each host

is that correct ?

for example i have 20 host in my cluster and want use 2 network adapter for vmkernel esxi managment and 2 network adapter for use my vms in this mode i had to select 4 for number of uplinks during vds creation?
