Consolidating VM on to same datastore

A VM was originally created on VMFS1 and the name.vmdk, name_1.vmdk files created. More disk volumes were created on a different datastore VMFS2. When created the names of the new volumes match the names of the existing volumes on VMFS1. Now they want to vmotion from the VMFS1 and put everything on the VMFS2 datastore. Using the Advanced button on the storage vmotion dialog gives me a list of the files to move. If I select the ones from VMFS1 saying I want to put it on VMFS2 will the be renamed accordingly or will I just get an error that the VMDK name already exists? Or can I just say change the datastore from VMFS1 to VMFS2 and only those that need to be moved will be moved and (hopefully) renamed? Our VMware "guru" recently jumped ship so we're trying to play catch up.

Oh, vCenter 5.0

TIA,

Bill
