I recently updated my environment from vSphere 5.0 to 5.5.
As we are now using the WebClient Custom Attributes need be to replaced by Tags. Before the update I though this won`t be problem as there I knew there was a wizard to the migration. But I very soon noticed that this wizard is not capable of migrating our big amount of Custom Attributes to Tags.
What happens: When trying to migrate a big amount of data the wizard succeeds but the Flash Plugin fails. And you only have some of your desired Custom Attributes migrated to Tags. As the wizard is also not capable of migration Custom Attributes to existing Tag Categories I see no option to convert all Custom Attributes automated.
This only happens when you have Tags that are often unique. In our case the Function or Responsibility of a VM.
Any ideas how to get this done without adding hundreds of Tags by hand ?
