Hello,
I am running Esxi 5.1(Essentials License) and I am deploying vCenter 5.1(Essentials License) as a VM on my system. My system has several HDD's as datastores such as a SSD, a SAS and a few SATA drives.
Now the problem is when I deploy the vCenter OVA to any of the regular drives(SAS/SATA), vCenter fails to boot failing to check the drives as the "inodes" are corrupted.
Here is the error on booting the deployed vCenter OVA:
/dev/sda3 has gone 291 days without being checked, check forced.
/dev/sda3: Inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found.
/dev/sda3: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
(i.e., without -a or -p options)
fsck failed. Mounting root device read-only
I tried running fsck manually and the errors get worse...
Now when I deploy the OVA to the SSD drive, everything works as planned.
I have other VMs on the non-SSD drives and those VMs work just fine.
I tried re-installing Esxi and using different drives and each time I have the problem unless I deploy the vCenter OVA to the SSD HDD.
The server is a SuperMicro X9DRW-3LN4F+ with internal and external SATA/SAS controllers. The SSD is on the internal controller whereas the other drives are on the external controller. I just sent the unit back for warranty for this problem and the manufacturer replaced the motherboard. Now that I have the server again, I am still having the problem. I have tried new drives and the same problem.
Is there a setting I am missing? BIOS setting? Esxi setting?
The date is correct on the server as I am using a NTP time source. (I was thinking about the 291 days without being checked from above)
I deployed the vCenter OVA to another server and no problems there.
I have deployed other OVAs to this server and no problems.
I am completely stumped.
Thanks in advance,
Michael
