I have 4 esxi hosts and around 50 VMs but my vcenter database and transaction files are more than double what they should be for my virtual environment. I looked over KB article 1028356 and the tables that are could account for a 10.5 gig database size, are not the problem. The biggest one is only 350 Megs. All other tables are very small in size as they should be. When I pull data on shrinking the files in the databse these are the numbers:
File Type Database:
currenlty allocated (or actually being used) 10,204 MB
availible (amount free within) 6,832.25 MB
File Type Log:
currently allocated 12,908 MB
availible 12,874.95 MB
Now the article just has me looking at these numbers and not actually following through on the shrink files command. It looks like if I can claim back the availible space, it would put my database and log database for the vcenter in line with sizes for my environment. What do you sugest I do to perform maintenance on these databases?
