Single Sign On Multisite Configuration (5.5)

With the appliance, is the Single Sign On multi-master feature available?

I would like to deploy the appliance (without Linked Mode), but with a single SSO authentication domain.

The documentation states this is possible: vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center  (Multiple
Single Sign-On instances in different locations) however, I cannot see how to achieve this with the appliance. I have a feeling this may be a (newly found?) appliance limitation, however there is nothing in the documentation to prove or disprove this.

Assuming I already have the Windows version deployed in Site A, will I be able to install the Site B appliance under the same SSO domain, or will I have to scrap the appliance route and go with Windows version?
