vCenter 5.0 to vCenter 5.1 - Questions

Hello VMTN Members,

I have been practicing and learning VMware vSphere and vCenter lately, started off with version 5.0. My LAB setup is as follows :

2 x ESX Hosts with ESX 5.0 installed

1 x Home Made ZFS NAS / SAN with Dual Port Gig Nics

1 x Management Computer with Windows 7 Installed and VMware Workstation 9 Installed.

I installed Two VMs on the vmware workstation :

1) 2008R2 Domain Controller

2) vCenter 5.0 Server on a 2008R2 with Embedded SQL Server Edition.

All good, now it's time to upgrade to 5.1

Questions :

I have downloaded the 5.1 goodies (esx and vcenter iso - 3gig), Shall i do the following :

a) Mount the ISO on vCenter Server 5.0 and Start the vCenter 5.1 Easy install option and that will take care of everything, like database and the database for single sign on ? (I read some where that SSO requires it's own database and one has to do something on the SQL if installing on top of a vcenter 5.0 server with embedded database?)

Update Manager :

To update Hosts (ESX), I know I can use the USB / CD installer and boot off the boxes with it and it will upgrade, but I am thinking to utilize Update Manager so that I can have some understanding as to how it works etc..

Questions :

a) Which version of Update Manager will be required, the one on the 5.1 CD / ISO ?

b) Update Manager requires a separate server / vm or can be installed on the same vcenter server with embedded sql database ?

I am also reading the docs whenever i get the time but will be grateful for your experienced suggestions / answers - thanks
