I am currently looking into DR site options and methods. I was hoping for some clarification on methods that are most common. We are a small company and have a small 2 host cluster with shared storage with 10-15 VM's. We will be purchasing a second SAN that supports replication for our secondary site. At the DR site a single ESX host will be attached to the new storage.
My understanding of recovery options at a basic level is this:
1. Manually recover the primary site VM's by making the DR sote snapshots writable, attaching the ESX host to the snapshot volumes and then add the required VM's to the host. Change IP's, etc.
2. Automate the recovery using a third party product (SRM, Zerto, any others?) which ties into the underlying SAN replication.
q. So my question is this: Other than manual recovery, are there any other options that would not require additional software (when only using SAN replication) that would make recovery smoother?
q. What other products might be recommended other than SRM or Zerto?
