Merge SSO domain in VCSA 6.7U1?

0
0

I noticed following from Under the Hood - vSphere 6.7 Update 1 - VMware vSphere Blog

Now, you have the flexibility to combine, merge, or separate vSphere SSO Domains ...

So it is already possible to MERGE SSO domains? For example, I have 2 independent deployments of VCSA 6.7U1 with their own "vsphere.local" SSO domain. Is it possible to merge them into 1 "vsphere.local" SSO domain so that ELM can work?

Snapshots of Citrix XenApp servers take forever to take and delete

0
0

Have been running into a situation that occurs more often than not.

VCSA 6.7

Guest OS: Windows 2016

Application: Citrix XenApp 7.15

We have about 70 Guests running Windows Server 12 and 16.   We do monthly maintenance and take snapshots before we apply updates/reboots.  Out of our 70 guests 12 of them are XenApp servers running XenApp 7.15.  About 3/4 of the time these servers take an inordinate amount of time to take a snapshot and even longer deleting the snapshots.   When this issue arises  we lose access to the system except through the console until the snaps are finished deleting.  The other 58 servers don't ever experience this issue.

I cannot find any rhyme nor reason as to why this happens.  The environment does not change the only commonality is that this only happens to my XenApp servers.

Does anyone have ANY idea why this would be??

Repeated alerts of disconnect/reconnect & Path down to empty Datastores after 6.0

0

We recently upgraded our vCenter and hosts to 6.0 and we are migrating off a vBlock system that uses EMC VNX onto newer linked vcenter that

uses vxRack system with and different storage vendor (can't recall vendor at present).  We have been receiving multiple storage alerts for path

down to luns and disconnect / reconnect notices since the upgrade of the old system.

After migrating all vm's out a cluster out of retiring vCenter and into the new linked environment we placed the old hosts into maintenance mode

as that cluster is now empty.   We have kept them in maint. mode to verify all info in the event of issues after migration to new system.

We have verified all the datastores connected to those specific hosts are now empty but are showing SIOC I/O workload errors even though

they are empty and can see no outside connections to those datastore.

Have verified no issues present on Cisco UCS blades and no issues alerting from within the VNX and there has been no hardware work

or network issues to the racks in the datacenter areas where that hardware is present.

Should we

a:  Remove the old hosts from vCenter hoping the alerts for those will stop.

or

b.  un-present the Datastores that are alerting from those hosts in the old cluster.

And Yes I have read the following and have called support but since it is a multiple type issue... I was hoping someone might be able to provide

some info

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

vCenter VMRC Resolution Error

Hi Guys,

I have a VDI that auto-fits any screen/monitor it opens on. I was told to turn this feature off, and I did, by editing the configuration/VMX of the VDI. I have attached a snip of the config parameter I used to do this (NoAutoAdjust.png)

The problem I have now is that whenever this VDI is launched with the VMRC I get an error in the tasks pane in vCenter. The remote console launches fine and doenst auto adjust so it is doing what I want it to do but is there a way to fix this error, is there another parameter that is needed to prevent his or is there a way to disable this error from appearing?

Thanks

vCenter 6.5 Incorrect UserName for event (PermissionChangedEvent)

0
0

When we changed permissions on a cluster using vCenter UI (6.5)

the permission changed event shows User Name as 'vpxd-extension....' instead of actual user name.

UI as well API report the above mentioned user name.

This is not observed if the permission change operation is performed using API.

This is not the case for vCenter 5.5 which means its clearly a regression.

This hampers solution ability to determine who performed the operation.

Any insights/workaround/acceptance of bug ?

thank you.

Can not display the mounted ISO patch on PSC VAMI page

I failed to upgrade PSC using Vxrail because vxManager is rebooted. Then I go to PSC console to double check if is completed or not, it does not completed.

So I reboot PSC again, and plan to manaully upgrade PSC via mount ISO to CD  follow below steps:

     1) upload patch to VSAN

     2) go VC UI, and select PSC, select "Edit settings"-> CD/DVD->Datastore ISO File, and choose the patch, select "Connected" and "Connect At Power on"

     3) login psc vami:  HTTPS://PSC_IP:5480,  "Update" tab->check CD, it will not display the mounted ISO

Go to SSH, input "mount /dev/cdrom  /tmp/cdrom", and list /tmp/cdrom, it can list packaged rpm

If I use same step to mount ISO patch to VCSA, and got VCSA VAMI page, it will display this patch on Update tab.

Question: When Can I find some clues or logs why it does display? Any suggestion  or workaround is welcomed.

vCenter Server Appliance High Availability - passive DOWN

0
0

Hi

I'm currently testing VCSA HA in a lab and I am seeing the following situation.

When I initiate a manual failover everything works fine and the Passive vCenter server becomes the active server and the old active server becomes the passive server. I can also fail back all fine.

However, when I simulate an uncontrolled failure of the active vCenter instance (eg power off the vm) the failover works fine, but the failed vCenter instance fails to rejoin the cluster when powered back up. This has happened every time I have done this.

Is it common for the VCHA cluster to need to be destroyed and recreated after such a failure as I see this is quite a common way to remediate issues?

I'd like to troubleshoot this scenario rather than just to rebuild the cluster each time, but I'm not sure where to look.

If I log into the vCenter server that is failing to rejoin the cluster (the passive node) I can run the Service-Control --status --all command and I notice that not many service are running. Is anyone able to tell me which services should be running on the passive node? In particular should vmware-vcha be running? as when I try to start this it returns the response that the service type is not set to automatic and skips it.

From the VCHA monitoring screen, it shoes me the Active and Witness nodes as 'UP' and the passive as 'DOWN' and suggests I check the passive node is online and accessible over the heartbeat network and I can ping the passive node from the active node all ok using the heartbeat ip address. It then says to check the replication is ok - how do I do this? I can see the vmware-postgres service is running (I had to start this manually) but what more can I do to check the replication is in synch.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. I'm most keen to understand what services should be running on the passive as I feel this is going to be the issue.

kind regards

vCenter Server Appliance install success loop

Hi all,

I have a VCSA 6.5u2 which was built from scratch (not upgraded). It functions fine in every way except for the management interface at port 5480. When I browse to the management interface I receive the tail end of the setup wizard with the close button. The close button does nothing nor does rebooting the server. I've also tried to force the URL to: https://my.domain.net.au:5480/#/login?locale=en but it just reverts to the installer complete page.

At the moment this isn't causing any issues but I don't want to have this in my way when I have an urgent production problem.

Trouble installing vCenter with nested virtualization: vpxd service cannot be started

0

Running VMware Workstation on Ubuntu 18, installed vSphere 6.7 as a virtual machine, trying to install vCenter 6.7 on top of vSphere VM.

The installation process stuck at 60% and gave an error saying vpxd service cannot be started. No detailed error messages.

By SSH to the machine I found most of the VMware services are masked. If to unmask vpxd, the service cannot be found anymore.

vCenter is using DHCP, no DNS.

Can someone help with starting the vpxd service, so I can continue installing vCenter?

Understanding & Implementing Guest User Mapping

0

Greetings,

I have been trying to implement the Guest User Mappings. The VM has VM Tools installed (10338 (10.3.2)). Below is my understanding:

there is SSO user administrator@vsphere.local with password password.

I enable Guest user mapping given the Guest OS username and password and assigned a SSO i.e administrator@vsphere.local with username administrator in Guest User Mapping but somehow it's not working.

PFA: Screenshot.

2019-03-29_14h30_18.png

But how can I use Guest User Mapping. In the end, I wind up giving Guest OS credentials in the Remote Console.

Also I need to use Guest User Mapping for vRealize Operations Manager with Service Discovery Management Pack.

Build number 11338176 (6.7U1a) available to download?

I need to restore my VCSA from a backup, but no matter which version of the vCenter installer I use, it says that the backup and installer need to be the same version.

The build number on the backup is 11338176, which I believe is 6.7U1a, but I can't find this anywhere to download.

Does anyone know if there is a way I can get hold of the installer with build number 11338176, or an alternative way to restore from the backup?

Thanks

Kill Inflate Process

I started an inflate on an 8Tb vmdk.  It's been running for 5 days and is only 30% done.  Two questions:

Is creating a Thick provisioned disk when creating the VM significantly faster than inflating a thin disk?

If so, what is the process name of the inflate process that will allow me to kill the process from the command line?

Corrupting the VM isn't an issue as I will just delete it and create a new one using the thick option.

Global permission and events through API

Currently I can get permissions through API which does not include global permissions. I do not see documentation to view global permissions using API (though PowerCLI seems to have a add/remove command for Global Permission).

Same issue for Events monitoring. Any update to global permissions do not show up in monitor events.

Any way to read both of this information using VMware API.

Admission Control

Hello,

I understood that Admission Control helps in identifying overbooking in the cluster environment.

It shows a warning based on the capacity of the existing assets or what you set in the percentages.

However, does it not prevent when the creation of new VMs is over limit?

Thank you.
